Oxidases catalyze the oxidation of molecules directly using dioxygen as the electron acceptor. Gecco biotech has an ever increasing collection of these verstatile enzymes; currently available enzymes are listed below. Our flagship oxidase is 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural oxidase (HMFO).  This enzyme converts HMF into the PEF monomer FDCA and can be used to make bio-based plastic bottles. Oxidases can be used to create many different valuable products, but also the hydrogen peroxide by-product is of interest, for example for electrochemical or colorimetric sensing. The use of ChitO for the detection of cellulase and chitinise degradation products has been extensively describes. The production of hydrogen peroxide can also be exploited for bleaching or anti-microbial purposes.

P450 Monooxygenases

Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s) are versatile biocatalysts that catalyze the regio- and stereospecific oxidation of non-activated hydrocarbons under mild conditions, which is a challenging task for chemical catalysts. Over the past decade impressive advances have been achieved via protein engineering with regard to activity, stability and specificity of P450s.

We are offering prototype P450 enzyme, P450 BM3 and several other members of this powerful biocatalysts, together with possibility of delivering specific mutants.
